What
Will I Learn?
The
Adult Trad Jazz Camp is focused on improvisation,
both individual and group, with an emphasis on taking
theory into practice at all times. Students are assigned
to bands with players of similar ability and experience,
and perform in the final concert on Saturday. Players
of all levels and experience are accepted.

the "instrument(s)" section, put your main
instrument first, and other instruments in descending
order of preference. We will try to place you on
your first instrument, but may ask you to attend
on one of your others if necessary.

Accommodations
Campers
are housed in dormitory type cabins, and eat in the
central dining hall. There are male, female, and
couples cabins, with central, shared, bathrooms.
You must bring bedding - a sleeping bag, sheets & blankets,
and pillow. You may wish to bring an inflateable
mattress for more comfort. Alternative Accommodations
If you prefer, you may book a hotel or motel room
in nearby Pollock
Pines, and drive to camp each day.
We also have space for a few RVs on campus. If you
choose either of these options, contact us as early
as possible. Space and rooms are limited.
How
much, Where, When?
This
years dates of the Sacramento Trad Jazz Adult Camp
are August 7-12, 2006. Tuition for the camp is $650.00.
Payment plans are available and many jazz societies
offer local scholarships. Write to STJS for
a jazz society to contact in your area.
The
camp is held at Sly
Park, the
Sacramento County Schools Outdoor Education Facility,
5600 Sly Park Road, Pollock Pines, CA, about an hour
east of Sacramento in the beautiful foothills of
the Sierra
Nevada. Please visit our FAQ page
for directions to the camp.
Plan to arrive at Sly Park around 3:00 p.m. on Monday,
August 1st.
The camp
concludes with a concert on August 12th, at Sly Park.
The concert is from 7:00 to 10:00 pm, and
campers are welcome to spend the night or leave after
the concert.
Faculty
The camp faculty consists of the finest
trad jazz players in the country, including: Rusty
Stiers-trumpet/cornet, Anita Thomas-clarinet and sax,
Terry Myers-clarinet and sax, Greg Varlotta-trombone,
Bob Phillips-piano, Jason Wanner-piano, Ed Metz, Jr.-drums,
Steve Homan-guitar, Lee Westenhofer-bass and tuba,
Shelley Burns-vocals, Dannie Balser-vocals and trumpet,
Eddie Erickson-guitar and banjo. (faculty subject to
