Meet the faculty

 

Steve Homan, was born in Akron,Ohio in 1954 and raised in Northern California. As a self-taught jazz guitarist and composer, Steve has performed professionally for over 30 years with a variety of top named jazz artists including Howard Alden, Herb Ellis, Jimmy Smith, Joe Williams, Ed Thigpen, Hugh Masakela, Art Van Damme,Anita O'Day, Joey Calderazo, Mel Martin and Diane Schuur and The Nelson Riddle Concert Orchestra(Chris Riddle/Conductor) He has appeared on recordings with Anita O'Day and Pete Jolly (At Vine Street Live) and Vibraphonist Gene Estes (In A Sentimental Mood)

In 1998 Steve traveled overseas to perform at The Glasgow International Jazz Festival in Scotland with Jazz Organ Legend Jimmy Smith and has performed on two occasions at The John F.Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts Millenium Stage in Washington D.C. in 1998 and 2000 for The Jazz Ambassadors program.

Steve also performed, composed and arranged music on two recently released jazz CDs (Organization) featuring The Delbert Bump Jazz Organ Trio and (Duality) a tribute to the great jazz guitar/piano duets with jazz pianist Dr. Joe Gilman.

In 1998 and 2000 Steve was honored to travel overseas as U.S.A. Jazz Ambassador. Through competitive auditions, Steve received travel grants from The John F. Kennedy Center For the Performing Arts and The U.S. State Department and has completed two very successful music tours to West Africa (Fall 1998) and to South/East Africa (Spring 2000) where he performed concerts,conducted jazz workshops and appeared on radio and television in over 12 countries.

Steve recently performed and was featured with The CRC Jazz Orchestra at The North Sea Jazz Festival (2003) in Holland with other jazz club appearances in Amsterdam,Paris and England.
Steve currently holds adjunct teaching positions at Cosumnes River College, American River College and Cal State University Sacramento,CA. (1998-2004)

In addition to 30+private guitar students, Steve teaches Northern California Summer Jazz Programs including: The Jazzmasters Workshop Jazz Guitar Series (San Francisco1998-2004), Sacramento Trad Jazz Camp (1995-2004) and The Dave Brubeck Institute Jazz Camp at The University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA.
